വീണ്ടും ദൃശ്യ(m) വിസ്മയം [Spoiler free Review]

Drishyam 2 , more than anything is a relief- a relief, for all the Mohanlal fans (for the actor in him is still alive); a relief for Jeethu Joseph, finding his rythm with thrillers once again ; and most importantly a relief for malayalam moviegoers. From beginning to the very end of that slow paced first half, the movie was a boring slow paced , product placement campaign. I was almost fed up with all the MyG and Nirapara ads in between that at one point, sleeping seemed to be a better option at 1 AM. But boy was I wrong😌

Isn't it satisfying when everything just makes sense at the end of the day. With D2 Jeethu has once again proved his ability to build strong narratives, creating nail-biting moments, connecting pieces one by one, almost like a beaded necklace. There are some excellent performances worth mentioning- Murali Gopi as the sharp police officer, Siddique as the father in pain, Saikumar, the artist who played Georgekutty's lawyer, nd in his reprisal of the smallest cameo role even good old Antony Perumbavoor surprised me. But what is all that when compared to the leading actor himself. Quoting Prithviraj, Drishyam 2 is proof that Class is PERMANENT. After tasting bitter response for most of his movies since Lucifer, Mohanlal makes a comeback as the cinephile family man turned criminal. Its is this smiling, crying Mohanlal without all the action, dance, mund kuthi meesha pirich kind of cliches , that malayalis have missed the most.

With Drishyam 2 , Jeethu did what he is best known for - Checkov's Gun.

Checkov's Gun is a law or a cinematic device. It says that if you see a gun hanging on a wall at the beginning of a movie, then at some point of the movie, the gun must fire. Showing the gun at an initial scene makes it more acceptable for the viewers. Since they are familiar with the Gun from the first half, they won't question its logic in the climax. This wouldn't be the case if someone just took out a gun from nowhere and fired. Drishyam 2 has many such call backs, and this makes it different from other JJ movies- this one has more than one plot points where you feel the same way as you felt watching Drishyam 1 climax

A Successful release like this is definitely going to be a boost for Malayalam movies in the OTT scene, and it opens the door for more investments from players like prime and Netflix in the state.

Overallverall Drishyam 2 is worth your time. Watch it as soon as you can.
